Reno in 2008! The 62nd RMMLA convention will be held at Harrah's Resort from 9 to 11 October 2008. Our local host will be the University of Nevada, Reno, and our local arrangements chair is Stacy Burton, chair of the Department of English and former RMMLA president. Proposals for special-topic sessions must be submitted by 1 November 2007 to be included in the call for papers (e-mail submission preferred - rmmla@wsu.edu). The CFP will be mailed to members and posted to the RMMLA Web site in mid-November 2007 (www.rmmla.org). Please consider proposing a paper and joining us in Reno.

Returning to 2007, however, we are very excited to be traveling to the heart of the Canadian Rockies for our 61st annual convention in Calgary, Alberta, hosted by the Univ. of Calgary. Our keynote speaker at this convention is Elizabeth George, author of the Inspector Lynley mystery novels, some of which have been filmed for television by the BBC and broadcast in the United States on the PBS Mystery series. At RMMLA, George will give a talk entitled "The Enduring Appeal of Crime"; she will also participate in a special panel discussion on creative writing. We are also pleased to have Douglas Steward, Associate Director of MLA English Programs, who will give a talk on academic freedom. We have over 150 regular and special-topic sessions on languages, literatures, cultures, linguistics, pedagogy, critical theory, film, drama, instructional technology, and technical writing. Special professional sessions on interview etiquette, scholarly publishing, and effective CV writing, as well as poetry and prose readings and book displays will round out the program. Thanks to all organizers and presenters for their support of RMMLA.

Convention participants are required to join RMMLA by 1 April. Yearly rates: $35, faculty members; $25, students, emeritus faculty members, independent scholars; Discounted, three-year rates: $85, faculty members, $50, students, emeritus faculty members, independent scholars. Lifetime rates also exist. Payment may be made to RMMLA, PO Box 642610, Pullman, WA 99164-2610; payment by Visa or MasterCard may be done online, mailed, faxed (509 335-3708), or called in (509 335-4198). Convention registration fees also apply.

RMMLA membership is for the calendar year and includes a subscription to the association's two refereed journals, the Rocky Mountain Review of Language and Literature and the Web-based Rocky Mountain E-Review; the privilege of presenting convention papers and organizing panels, submitting articles, and being nominated to the Executive Board; and eligibility for all RMMLA research and travel awards (see www.rmmla.org).

The Rocky Mountain Review of Language and Literature is printed in April and November. The editors encourage submission of scholarly articles on any topic of interest to our membership, written in English. See the Web site for submission guidelines.

Articles appearing in the RMMLA's online journal, the Rocky Mountain E-Review, undergo exactly the same review process as articles considered for the print journal. Articles destined for the online journal may be written in English or any other language and may include multimedia components (graphics, audio, video, hyperlinks to other Web sites, etc.). Pieces accepted for publication in the E-Review will appear as soon as they have passed through the review process, rather than on a fixed print publication schedule.
